Nutritional Therapy is the application of nutrition science* to promote health, peak performance and individual care.

nutrition science is the study of how the food we eat affects our body’s metabolic and physiological responses.

*

You are probably very familiar with the phrase ‘you are what you eat’. It’s certainly true that your
food intake, the nutrients absorbed, the body’s systems function, combined with lifestyle and environmental factors have a profound effect your health.

Nutritional therapy is recognised as a complementary medicine
and is relevant for individuals with health conditions, as well as those looking for support to enhance their health, wellbeing and performance (including sports).

It is based on a functional medicine model where practitioners look at each client as an individual and create a personalised nutrition and lifestyle programme. It is essential that the client feels comfortable and happy with the programme in order for them to achieve the changes discussed and recommended.

Practitioners never recommend nutritional therapy as a replacement for medical advice and always refer any client with ‘red flag’ signs or symptoms to their medical professional. They will also frequently work alongside a medical professional and will communicate with other healthcare professionals involved in the client’s care to explain any nutritional therapy programme that has been provided.
